Namuna College of Fashion Technology (NCFT) is Nepal’s first Fashion College and the initiator and pioneer of academic fashion education in the country. NCFT introduced Nepal’s first ever Bachelors course in Fashion with the Bachelor of Fashion Design program of 3 years (6 Semesters) in 2002 in affiliation with Purbanchal University. In 2016, NCFT launched Nepal’s only Bachelors course in Fashion of 4 years (8 semesters) with the Bachelor of Fashion Design and Management (BFDM) program in affiliation with Purbanchal University.
Namuna in context of fashion in Nepal conjures up a remarkable history going back to more than 4 decades. It was all set in motion by our Founder Principal, Gyani Shova Tuladhar, a name synonymous with fashion in Nepal.
Our Bachelor of Fashion Design and Management (BFDM) program is the 1st and only Bachelors course of 4 years (8 semesters) in Fashion in Nepal and is an upgrade on our Bachelor of Fashion Design (BFD) program.
One of Nepal’s most awaited and acclaimed fashion extravaganzas, our Graduation Fashion Shows have been organized with the main title “Journey Of Fashion” by graduating designers of the final semester since 2005.
Our graduates deliver high value to many organizations of Nepal as career professionals. The entrepreneurial zeal of our graduates has also made them fashion entrepreneurs and employment creators.
Active professionally in fashion for more than five decades, Mrs. Gyani Shova Tuladhar is a trailblazing fashion designer, entrepreneur and academician. So instrumental have her efforts been in elevating the entire fashion sphere of Nepal that it would not be inappropriate to consider her as the Grande Dame of Nepali fashion.
Mrs. Tuladhar embarked on her remarkable fashion odyssey in the early 1970s with only a single scissor, cutting board, sewing machine, measuring tape and an iron when she established Namuna Silai after graduating from Zarapkar Tailoring College (Now Zarapkar Fashion College), Mumbai where she studied under an Indian Embassy scholarship.
In 1997, she established Namuna Institute of Technology (NIT) which is probably Nepal’s first professional school to offer career and employment oriented short duration vocational courses in various aspects of fashion and clothing construction. Mrs. Tuladhar is also the visionary behind the establishment of Namuna College of Fashion Technology (NCFT) in 2002, which is Nepal’s first ever Fashion College and which introduced both the 3 years (6 semesters) and the 4 years (8 semesters) Bachelors programs in Fashion in the country in affiliation with Purbanchal University.
